Welcome to my world of textile art on paper, using linoblocks, ink, thread or the simple beauty of folding.
My name is Liz Sofield and I am Textile and Ceramic Artist.
My inspiration comes Matisse, Rut Bryk, Anni Albers, 1920’s and Mid Century design, breezeblocks, glass reflections on tall buildings…and all the other geometric patterns I see around me every day.
Developing my artwork is a tactile and contemplative process that expresses my love of patterns and geometry.
I love that my passion is sparked by the very old to the new, from Tapa Cloths of the Pacific Islands and the beautiful art of Origami, to the spontaneous creativity of my eight-year-old twins.
I have qualifications in Textile Design and Interior Design and have commercial experience designing hand printed furnishing fabric, woven home wares, bed linen and bespoke rugs.
A New Zealander living in Australia: I miss Pohutukawa trees and jelly-tips from New Zealand, but for the past twelve years we have gotten to enjoy the Frangipani trees in Queensland, Australia and walking with my dog Yogi, along the beach.
My ceramic work can be found at 3h studio, creativity through head, heart and hands.
My artwork and 3hstudio ceramics are available at
Level 1/27 Redcliffe Parade, Redcliffe, Queensland
Please contact me to view more of my work and commission enquires. I would love to hear from you.
Hand stitching on paper allows Liz to bring together the two traditional techniques of origami and embroidery, and harness their tactile and meditative processes. Through this contemplative practice, Liz’s love of patterns and geometry is transformed into beautiful Paper Textile Art pieces.
3h studio is the ceramic practice of artist Liz Sofield.
The beautiful tactile nature of hand building with clay is expressed by hand folding the clay into origami inspired forms and impressed with Liz’s rhythmical approach to patterning. Featured photo, Lotus Bowl.
